Gary W. Short began working in the tank-truck industry in 1965 for Ryder Tank Lines and later Chemical Leaman. He worked in Chattanooga, TN and Greensboro, NC before becoming a lease operator in Richmond, VA in 1971. Gary separated from Chemical Leaman and the operation evolved into Atlantic Bulk Carrier Corporation. Gary served on the Board of Directors for the National Tank Truck Carriers Association and on its Budget and Finance Committee for 20 years. He was a past president of the Virginia Trucking Association and now serves on the Executive Committee.
Mark W. Short began working with Atlantic Bulk Carrier part time and during summers as a teenager. He has worked in the maintenance, billing and operations departments. After attending Virginia Commonwealth University, Short joined Atlantic Bulk full time in 1995. As president, he concentrates his efforts on operations and revenue management. Short lives in Richmond with his wife and three children.
J. Ward Best began his career with Atlantic Bulk Carrier in 1996. He has immersed himself in all aspects of the business, from working in the shop to safety and compliance. From 2002 – 2006, he served as President of Atlantic Tank Lines, a sister company of Atlantic Bulk that specialized in hazardous materials transportation. Mr. Best returned to Atlantic Bulk Carrier as Vice President when the companies merged in 2007. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from NC State University in 1988. His education and training include coursework through NATMI, FMCSA, DOT and state and national associations focusing on accident investigation, regulatory compliance, hazardous materials and security. Recognitions include 2010 and 2011 Grand Award for safety officials in the annual NTTC Competitive Safety Contest. In 2013, Mr.Best was awarded the Risk Control Manager of the Year Award by Raffles Insurance Ltd. He is a member of the Virginia Trucking Association Safety Council and the American Society of Safety Engineers.
Vice President of Operations
Warren Groseclose started with ABC in 2005 as the Vice President of Operations. He started in the tank truck industry in 1990 after a 6 year active duty tour as an Army Aviator. He has been involved in both operations and sales during his trucking career. He’s worked on many projects that have solved quality and safety issues when transferring materials from railcars to tank trucks. These projects totally changed how two shippers distributed their materials saving millions of dollars and one of these projects lead to the designation as an inventor with a patent award. Mr. Groseclose is also President of Automated Cargo Transport Systems which is owned by Atlantic Holding Corporation of VA. As a member of the NTTC, Mr. Groseclose also serves on their Budget and Finance Committee. He graduated from The Virginia Military Institute with a degree in Economics in 1983. He holds a current CDL and has his FAA commercial pilot’s license.
